Author Bio

The “Warren Gerds Papers” held by a university explore his writing for a daily newspaper for 45.5 years, with coming additions to include his work from 9.5 years at a television station along with book authorship. His 12 books so far include non-fiction (Real, Honest Sailing with a Great Lakes Captain), fiction (The Lost Legend of Taylor Rapids) and career-spanning (Golden Tales of a Newsman). In journalism school, he was an undergraduate teaching assistant who graded other students’ work. His job at a daily newspaper almost immediately developed in him being an editor and feature writer in a hybrid situation. After retiring from the newspaper, he soon was asked to be Critic at Large for a television station’s website (1,426 reviews), along with appearing in a weekly on-air segment (more than 400 times). He also performed in Nature: Words and Songs presenting segments from three of his books with a classical/operatic singer featured in songs from four languages. Just released is a children’s book, A Friendly Tree, with an established wildlife artist, Joan White. The author lives in Wisconsin with his English-teacher wife and their adoring poodle.
